As the Philippines reaches the final leg of campaigning in its midterm elections, China is being accused of a "sinister campaign" to influence the electoral outcome. A Chinese national with surveillance equipment was captured near the Philippine election commission, the Chinese Embassy in Manila stands accused of funding online troll farms, and Philippine media received a fake memo about remarks from then-U.S. national security advisor Mike Waltz pushing Sara Duterte’s impeachment. Philippine Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino said “The money that the Chinese Embassy paid was for something hidden and sinister. It was to finance a troll farm. ...(This is) a covert disinformation and influence operation against the Philippine government and the Filipino people.”
