“The complete reunification of the motherland is the shared aspiration of all Chinese people, an unstoppable trend and a just cause. Any attempt at 'Taiwan independence' is a reckless act of self-destruction, like a mantis trying to stop a chariot. China will and must be reunified." These were the words of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at China’s annual legislative gathering called the “Two Sessions.” Before these remarks, Chinese Premier Li Qiang delivered the government's work report. In it, he said: "We will resolutely oppose separatist activities aimed at Taiwan secession and external interference…We will firmly advance the cause of China’s reunification and work with our fellow countrymen to realize the glorious cause of the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation."
