As Chinese experts in Chinese state media debate Trump's Ukraine shift, some have concluded that in a Taiwan crisis, the U.S. president would respect the power of China and not defend Taiwan. Meanwhile at Beijing's annual "Two Sessions" political meeting, Chinese Premier Li Qiang pledged to strengthen combat readiness, safeguard national sovereignty and push forward military-civilian reforms. And even before the Two Sessions, China's top leader Xi Jinping had ordered three kinds of military reforms to “prioritize combat readiness as the foremost duty, with a fundamental orientation of preparing for and engaging in warfare.”
