Australia has accused a Chinese jet that dropped flares within 30 meters of its aircraft over the South China Sea of “unsafe and unprofessional conduct.” Canberra was also monitoring three Chinese warships, one of which passed into Australia’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ). Meanwhile, New Zealand is concerned about an upgrade in ties between China and the Cook Islands, with whom it has constitutional ties.
