Under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, Chinese leader Xi Jinping has heavily invested in Africa. In September 2024, the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation was held in Beijing, and was attended by many African leaders, highlighting China’s significant influence on the continent. In contrast, U.S. President Joe Biden made his final overseas trip in early December before stepping down, choosing to visit Angola in Africa. This marked his first visit to the African continent as President. In this episode of “Taiwan Talks” we delve into President Biden’s recent visit to Africa and how it might counter Chinese influence in the region. Furthermore, we analyze the the incoming Trump administration’s potential Africa policy and how China is maintaining close ties with African countries.
