Chinese nationals leaving Karachi international airport in Pakistan on October 6th were attacked and two were killed. The tragedy is just one of an increasing number of attacks on Chinese over the past five years by militant groups from the region of Balochistan and beyond, who have waged a low-level insurgency against the Pakistani state since 2004. The militant groups say the government has deprived them of their rights, exploited the region for its oil and minerals, and carried out a campaign of “forced disappearances” of thousands of men from the region.
