U.S. presidential nominees Kamala Harris and Donald Trump had their first debate on September 10, where they discussed issues such as immigration, the economy, and Taiwan. In this episode of “Taiwan Talks,” we discuss the first U.S. presidential debate, the candidates’ current standings in polls, and how important China policy will be in the coming elections. Furthermore, we examine how either candidate might shift U.S. stances on Taiwan, the lasting effects of Trump-era tariffs on China, and how both the U.S. and Taiwan should address Taiwan's defense. Our guests are: Kharis Templeman - Standford University Hoover Institution Project on Taiwan and the Indo-Pacific Program Manager and Research Fellow Chen Fang-yu - Soochow University Political Science Assistant Professor
