Canada and Australia are deepening their military cooperation with an eye on China. In a bilateral meeting between Canada's defense minister, Bill Blair, and Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Richard Marles in Vancouver, the two sides expressed concern about China’s expansion of maritime claims in the South China Sea and activity in the Taiwan Strait. Blair said that China was implementing "the biggest military buildup of any nation since World War II" and that it sought to "reshape the global order" to its own advantage.
