**This show was recorded on July 15, before U.S. President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race** At the recent NATO summit in Washington D.C., 32 member states signed a communique that condemned Russia. It also criticized China’s “no limits” partnership with Russia as enabling Moscow in its war on Ukraine. The statement comes just after the EU took measures against China, announcing sanctions on 19 Chinese companies. How are these stances upping pressures on China and its economy? In this episode of “Taiwan Talks,” we discuss NATO and EU actions as well as whether China can find a counterbalance to Western influence in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). Furthermore, we examine the U.S. presidential elections and how a potential Trump 2.0 presidency could shift stances on NATO, East Asia, and Taiwan.
