China has slammed reported plans by India to build 12 hydropower plants in its northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh. Beijing says such plans would be “illegal and invalid” because it claims the territory as the Chinese region of South Tibet. In March, Washington backed New Delhi, saying the U.S. recognizes Arunachal Pradesh as part of India.
