After a series of near misses between Chinese and Philippines coast guard vessels, the two finally clashed. Two incidents took place close to Second Thomas Shoal within Manila’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ). This comes as the United States released video of more than a dozen risky Chinese maneuvers which the State Department said “increased the risk of a major accident, incident or crisis, including the potential for loss of life.”
