In today’s show, we focus on what Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is calling a historic strengthening of Japan-U.S. security ties. We take a look at the following developments: Fumio Kishida and Joe Biden say the Japan-U.S. alliance is of utmost importance in a world under threat. Meanwhile, a Washington think tank ran a Chinese invasion scenario by land and sea 24 times and found it would need the U.S., Japan and Taiwan to defeat Beijing. And a former NATO Secretary-General travels to Taiwan to rally democratic support. Finally, one of the first things the new U.S. Speaker of the House did on election was to establish a China Select Committee. It’s the only single-country committee in the House. Drew is a former Director for China, Taiwan and Mongolia in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs at the U.S. Department of Defense. He’s also a part-time senior research scientist at national security thinktank CNA Corporation.
