Hung Wei, the newly elected Mayor of Cupertino, spoke in an exclusive interview with Taiwan Talks on her historic win as the second female Taiwanese American to lead the city and her aspirations in further enhancing technological cooperation between Taiwan and the United States. Cupertino is right in the heart of Silicon Valley, and is home to many of the world’s largest IT companies, including Apple, Inc. It is also a sister city with Hsinchu, Taiwan’s semiconductor hub. Apart from being a technology center, Cupertino is also where one of California’s largest Taiwanese communities reside, with Asians comprising over 65% of the city’s population. Born and raised in Taiwan, Wei shares with us her deep connections to the island nation and why she expects to visit Hsinchu very soon.
