Taiwan prosecutors have indicted a Hong Kong-based gang member for a violent attack on Japanese-Taiwanese researcher Yaita Akio back in July. Yaita, founder of Indo-Pacific Strategy Thinktank, was punched in the face at a Taichung hotel after giving a talk on regional security. Liao was arrested while trying to leave Taiwan. Four other defendants face charges in the attack, which authorities are calling a case of Chinese transnational repression.
