A literary event in Munich featuring award-winning Taiwanese author Yang Shuang-zi went ahead despite efforts by China's consulate to have it canceled. Literaturhaus München rejected the request and proceeded with a discussion of Yang's acclaimed novel, "Taiwan Travelogue." Taiwan's representative office says the Chinese consulate offered to organize and fund an alternative event featuring a Chinese author instead. The event later drew criticism after an interpreter reportedly said in advance that he could not translate certain political topics and avoided terms including "Republic of China," "Taiwan," and "China" during the discussion, prompting complaints from Taiwanese attendees.
