Taiwan's military on Thursday said 39 Chinese warplanes had been spotted around the country's airspace, adding to the record number of more than 1,600 incursions this year. Taiwan's transport minister has said that a rail strike over the Lunar New Year holiday period has been averted, though the railway workers' union has called the statement premature.
