Taiwan Cabin Crew Death: Is the Airline To Blame?

Taiwan’s EVA Air made headlines in 2023 when a cabin crew member surnamed Sun reported feeling unwell on the job. Days later, she died in hospital. Other crew members allege that the airline, its policies and practices were key factors leading to Sun’s death. EVA Air cabin crew and labor union member Helen Lee says there is a ‘toxic’ culture within the airline. She describes a system that actively penalizes staff for taking sick leave and shifts responsibility for wellbeing from the company onto individuals.
