7.4% GDP Growth: Taiwan 2025 Economy Review

Taiwan’s economy had a (mostly) great 2025. Demand for AI and high-end semiconductors buoyed GPD growth, outstripping most developed economies. GDP per capita also overtook that of Japan and South Korea. But can this growth continue in 2026? And as housing and living costs continue to squeeze household budgets, will only the rich benefit? We asked Orina Chang (chair professor and vice dean at the School of Banking and Finance, National Sun Yat-sen University) for her take on the numbers. What exactly gave Taiwan an edge in 2025? And can that continue into 2026?
