Amazing Wildlife: Hatching of Hairstreak Butterflies
The forests in mid to high-altitude regions of Taiwan are where the hairstreaks lay their eggs. The metamorphosis of the hairstreaks’ caterpillars is truly a natural wonder. Measuring just 1 mm in diameter, the hairstreak’s eggs keep their larvae from the elements during harsh winters. When spring arrives, the hairstreaks emerge from the eggs to take their maiden flights.
