TaiwanPlus is launching a new original series called “Fusion Persuasion,” which tells personal stories through the lens of food. The show brings together culturally diverse guests and private chefs to create unique dishes inspired by heritage, life experiences, and connections to Taiwan.
More than just a food show, “Fusion Persuasion” is a celebration of culture, creativity, and the deep emotional ties that food can hold. Each episode invites viewers into the lives of the guests, showing how personal histories and global journeys come together at the table.
This series aims to show a different side of Taiwan’s food scene beyond the usual night market snacks, bubble tea, and Din Tai Fung. While those are well known, there is much more to Taiwanese cuisine, from regional dishes to unique culinary traditions that deserve to be explored and appreciated.
“This series is really about storytelling through flavor,” said Producer Morris Chen. “Each guest brings their own background and experience to the table, and the food becomes a way to express that. The stories are personal, but the themes are universal. Through “Fusion Persuasion,” we want to show how Taiwan’s openness to cultural exchange can spark meaningful conversations about identity.”
In every episode, a private chef collaborates with the guest to design a dish that blends traditional ingredients with fresh interpretations. These creations are more than meals. They are personal statements and reflections of cultural identity.
The series will feature four guests whose stories reflect the richness of Taiwan’s diverse society:
- Natalie Pickles, who grew up between British and Hakka traditions, shares how her time on a tea plantation in Miaoli shaped her love for tea and her connection to family roots.
- Brendan Pang, a chef and former MasterChef Australia contestant, explores Taiwan’s food scene and discovers new ways to fuse his Chinese and Mauritian influences.
- Sharon Huang, a world traveler with a passion for bold flavors, brings her homemade chili sauce and memories of spicy meals with her father to the table. Her featured dish, a spicy seafood risotto, reflects her adventurous spirit.
- Charlene Yang, a well-known food blogger, discusses her love for storytelling through food and photography. Her episode highlights her passion for capturing flavor and emotion in every dish.
The featured recipes include sweet potato dumpling soup with chocolate filling, oyster pancake pizza, and mala seafood risotto made with premium local rice. These dishes reflect the playful and thoughtful approach that defines the series.
Set against the backdrop of Taiwan’s famous food culture, each story combines beautiful visuals with personal reflections, offering viewers a new way to think about food as a language of identity and connection.
“Taiwan has a strong foundation in tradition, but it is also incredibly creative and forward-looking,” Chen added. “Fusion Persuasion” captures that spirit. It is about honoring where we come from and being open to what is possible.”
Fusion Persuasion is available now on the TaiwanPlus website and YouTube channel.
