Every year, the indigenous Rukai village of Maolin in southern Taiwan plays host to some special visitors, as a kaleidoscope of up to a million “Svongvong” or double-branded crow butterflies, winter there before heading north to breed. These winged wonders have touched the lives of locals and visitors alike, positively impacting the way people interact with the #natural world.
