See You at the Market - Ep. 8: Yancheng Dagouding in Kaohsiung
Yancheng District is the smallest administrative district in Kaohsiung by area and yet in the 1960s, it was the population center of the city, a testament to the prosperity of this harborside area. After WWII, the city government paved over the Dagouding Canal and built a shopping street on top of it; however, as the center of city development gradually moved eastward, Yancheng’s heyday gradually went into decline. Nowadays, as this shopping street is past its prime, there is a new sense of dynamism and vitality to discover. We explore how young business owners are trying to find their own niche and focusing on what they believe in most.
